Our core business is manufacturing traction sheaves and diverter pulleys along with offering mechanical lift repairs. Pye London Ltd is one of the major UK participants in this market. We supply many of the leading UK lift companies with their traction sheave requirements and other associated products such as gearbox overhauls and re-calibrating overspeed governor units, etc.

Our castings are manufactured to BS EN 1561:1997, Cast Iron Grade 300 which ensures a tough, wearing surface of 220-245 on the Brinell hardness scale. A specific chemical composition is used during the casting process to achieve a longer compatible life between our traction sheaves and the many fibre and steel core ropes produced by rope manufacturers. We can manufacture traction sheaves up to 64” (1625mm) diameter with machined rope grooves to suit standard groove profiles or to your specific requirements.

Our traction sheaves are manufactured as a one-piece sheave or as a two-piece arrangement commonly known as a bolt on hub and rim traction sheave.

When specified, traction sheaves can also be Induction Hardened to increase the hardness of the sheave surface. This ensures longer compatibility between our traction sheaves and manufacturer’s steel ropes, where applicable.

We hold many patterns and samples from which we can cast. We also maintain a good stock of blank castings which enables us to offer a swift turn-around when required.
